Electrical and electronic equipment

Information on electrical and electronic equipment

Below you will find information for private households that use electrical and/or electronic equipment:

1. Information on the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment and on the meaning of the symbol according to the appendix

Old appliances must be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste. Electrical (old) appliances must not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste. In particular, these appliances must not be disposed of in household waste. Electrical (old) appliances must be collected and can be disposed of via the local collection system.

Old batteries and accumulators that are not enclosed in the old equipment and lamps that can be removed intact from the old equipment must be separated from the old equipment before being handed in at a drop-off point, unless the old equipment is separated from other old equipment by the public waste management authorities in accordance with Article 14 (4), fourth sentence, or (5), second and third sentences, of the ElektroG with a view to preparing it for re-use.

The symbol according to Annex 3 to the ElektroG (a crossed-out wheeled bin) indicates WEEE that may not be disposed of with unsorted municipal waste at the end of its life:

2. Information on the possibility of returning old appliances:

a) Return/collection when purchasing a new appliance and delivering it to a private household.

If you buy a new electrical or electronic appliance from the distributor, you can return an old appliance of the same type free of charge (if it has essentially the same functions). If you have the new appliance delivered to a private household, the return takes place by means of a free collection. For this purpose, you can hand over the corresponding old appliance to the delivering transport company upon delivery of the new appliance.

If the new appliance is only sold using means of distance communication (§ 312c para. 2 BGB), the following applies restrictively: The free collection of an old appliance described above is only possible for appliances in category 1 (heat transmitters), 2 (screens, monitors, appliances with screens with a surface area of more than 100 square centimetres) and/or 4 (large appliances where at least one of the external dimensions is more than 50 centimetres).

If the WEEE falls under category 3, 5 and/or 6, it will not be collected free of charge. In this case, the appliance can be handed in free of charge instead, as described under b). An overview of the appliance categories can be found here: https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/elektrog_2015/anlage_1.html

2.1. b) Return and drop-off elsewhere/return of small appliances

If you buy a new electrical appliance from the distributor that is not delivered to private households, or belongs to categories 3, 5 and/or 6, and/or was only bought using means of distance communication (§ 312c para. 2 BGB) with delivery to private households, you can return similar old appliances free of charge (if they have essentially the same functions).

Irrespective of the purchase of a new appliance, you can also return free of charge up to 3 appliances per type of appliance which are not larger than 25 centimetres in any external dimension. If the sale is made only by means of distance communication (§ 312c para. 2 BGB), the return of old appliances of categories 3, 5 and/or 6 and of old appliances which are not larger than 25 centimetres in any external dimension shall be effected under the above-mentioned conditions by suitable return facilities at a reasonable distance from the respective end user, otherwise at the place of delivery or in its immediate vicinity.

The distributor shall have set up an appropriate return facility for this purpose and shall provide information about it.

c) Other return options

In addition, as a manufacturer of electrical and electronic equipment, we provide the following option(s) for the return of old equipment for their users:

You can return electrical appliances to a municipal collection point or to your local retailer. As a distributor of electrical appliances, we are also obliged to take back old appliances, although our take-back obligation is limited to appliances of the type that we stock or have stocked as new appliances in our range. You can therefore either return old appliances of the above-mentioned type to us with sufficient postage or hand them in directly to our dispatch warehouse at the following address free of charge:

Biologa Danell GmbH

Hauptstraße 27

72336 Balingen

Old appliances can be handed in at facilities set up and made available by public waste management authorities for the return or collection of old appliances. The respective collection and take-back point will provide you with more detailed information.

An online directory of collection and take-back points can be accessed here: https://www.ear-system.de/ear-verzeichnis/sammel-und-ruecknahmestellen.jsf
